When is the best to save your loved one-NOW

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

When is the best time to get your loved one suffering from drug addiction into a drug addiction treatment center? That question can be answered with another question… When does an intervention take place? Ideally this has less to do with the family schedule and more to do with getting them into drug detox and a drug and alcohol addiction treatment center. It also has to do with what’s going on in the addict’s life. Even if they are not willing to go to a drug addiction treatment center, the best time to perform an intervention is just after a major event. Such an event would be that the addict got arrested, or when he/she has wronged (lied, stolen, cheated etc.) a family member and would show remorse or guilt. Another good time would be if his /her spouse is leaving, if they are about to lose custody of the kids. Yet another would be after an overdose, which, if they don’t die, is a form of detox. Although you obviously don’t want to risk the addict’s life by postponing forever, an intervention will be more effective after such events when the addict is down and feels like his/her world is coming to an end.

Even in the absence of these situations, an intervention can be successful especially if the family is close to the addict on a daily basis so that every little situation is known by the family. An addict’s life can be a major roller coaster and the only way an addict can deny their problem is to successfully hide these problems from those who love him.

Committing yourself to getting help

Drug rehabilitation isn’t a spectator sport. Some California drug rehabs would have you believe that getting sober is simply a matter of going through the motions of exclusive addiction treatment. It isn’t. The truth is that drug addiction is a personal disease, and drug recovery has to be the product of personal effort. The only successful drug rehab patients are those who engage with their rehab programs, and commit themselves to the long-term fight against drug abuse. Drug rehabilitation can change your life, if it’s done right. The only catch is that you’re the one who has to make it go.

Make no mistake, there’s nothing easy about making the decision to check into a drug treatment center. But no choice could ever be important. The day you start drug rehabilitation is the day you start recovering your old self, and your old world. Addiction is a devastating disease. Addiction recovery is a tremendous gift. Don’t wait another day to start finding that out on your own terms.

Rebuilding and finding strength

Addiction treatment facilities could be in house or out house patients. The patients are exposed to an environment that will deal with a lot of counseling, as well as physical help. With the counseling, they will be taken step by step, and helped psychologically as well as emotionally to grow.

Physical help is a part of addiction treatment, as the alcoholics and drug addicts will need good nutrition charts, and also physical exercise. All this will help build the body, to a stage as it was before the drug abuse began. The addiction treatment programs time will differ from person to person, as they would have been exposed to different drugs, and they will also vary with response to treatment.

For the drug addicts to achieve better results, the family must play an important role while the individuals are in the residential rehabilitation centers.

This way, the patients will recover faster. At extreme stages, the patient may also additional medicines that will help him recover, from the urge to use the drugs. This will be prescribed by health professionals in the centers.

Long-Term Residential Treatment provides care 24 hours per day, generally in nonhospital settings

Saturday, November 3rd, 2007

Long-Term Residential Treatment provides care 24 hours per day, generally in nonhospital settings. The best-known residential treatment model is the therapeutic community (TC), but residential treatment may also employ other models, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy. TCs are residential programs with planned lengths of stay of 6 to 12 months. TCs focus on the “resocialization” of the individual and use the program’s entire “community,” including interventionists, other residents, staff, and the social context, as active components of treatment. Addiction is viewed in the context of an individual’s social and psychological deficits, and treatment focuses on developing personal accountability and responsibility and socially productive lives. Addiction treatment centers are highly structured and can at times be confrontational, with activities designed to help residents examine damaging beliefs, self-concepts, and patterns of behavior and to adopt new, more harmonious and constructive ways to interact with others. Many TCs are quite comprehensive and can include employment training and other support services on site. Compared with patients in other forms of drug treatment, the typical TC resident has more severe problems, with more co-occurring mental health problems and more criminal involvement. Research shows that TCs can be modified to treat individuals with special needs, including alcohol addiction, drug addiction, adolescents, women, those with severe mental disorders, and individuals in the criminal justice system.

Finding the right drug rehabilitation center

Friday, October 26th, 2007

Finding the right drug rehabilitation center, like the one I attended in Malibu, CA, is confusing, as the types of drug rehab and their individual programs vary as addictions and the individual addicts themselves. It is critical to examine all aspects of drug abuse and the individual addict to determine what kind of drug rehabilitation is right. These days, with the average age of addicts dropping to disturbing ages, there are drug rehab programs available far a wide for teenagers and adolescents. Many of these drug rehab centers offer inpatient and outpatient, depending on the severity of the addition and whether it is a good decision for the adolescent to stay in school or undergo a full time recovery process in the residential rehab program. In Los Angeles there are many drug rehab centers that focus on the 12-step program coupled with specific drug detox methods. It is important to know what kind of methods and philosophies will work best with each individual kind of addict. The kind of drug rehab program makes a huge a difference in the rehabilitation process, but the key element is not the drug rehab center, it’s location, credentials of the addiction counselors, or the support it offers.

I hated the feeling that i was being ruled by this inanimated object

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Being at a drug rehabilitation center was quite a relief. I know that you would think that couldn’t be true but it was. I hated being addicted to drugs. It’s not like I ever planned drug addiction to happen. It just happened. I started doing a little drugs here and there and then it finally got bad and became this big monster in my life that I had no way of getting rid of. I hated feeling like I was being ruled by this inanimate object that was only bad for me. I really wanted to change the way that my life was becoming and going to a drug rehab center was the way to do it. I’m glad that it eventually worked, too. If it hadn’t worked I’d probably be dead right now or walking the streets aimlessly like those dudes you see on television. The drug rehabilitation center taught me all that I needed to know to rid myself of that monkey on my back and it gave me the strength to keep from relapsing as well. I loved the caring and determined attitude that the folks at the drug rehabilitation center had at all times and I will never forget them or their diligent efforts.

Man was that intervention rough

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

The intervention that my family performed on me woke my ass up. Hell yes it did. I was in a daze for longer than I would like to admit. My meth habit had taken me to the edge of hell. I was completely consumed by my addiction and there was really no way out of it. I had been doing meth for a crazy long time and nothing was going to get me out of it. My mom had tried everything. And no matter how much she tried I just continued to get worse and worse. It was like I was another person who had no recollection of the person he had once been. The intervention was my family’s final attempt to help me reclaim my life and they all chipped in. When I got home to that crowded living room I immediately knew what was going down. They all sat me down and explained how they felt about my addiction and told me that they wanted me to get help. I took what they said to heart even though it meant admiting that I had a problem. They had a counselor from a drug rehab present and he told me that he was willing to take me there if I agreed. The rest is history. My wake up call was amazing and it got me back on track for sure.

Rehab centers, where the addiction the ends.

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

No drug addict can get sober without help. I learned that lesson the hard way. Three times, I tried to quit using cocaine myself. Three times I failed. Miserably. Finally I decided to check into a professional drug treatment center, where addiction treatment professionals could give me the care I needed to get better. And it made a world of difference.

Rehab centers are vital to addiction recovery because addiction is not a choice. Addicts don’t willfully decide to use drugs, and they can’t just willfully decide to get sober. Cancer patients don’t get healthy outside of hospitals. And drug addicts don’t get healed outside of rehab centers. That’s just not the way it works.

If you’re here, reading this, you already know what drug abuse can do. You know it ruins lives. You know you can’t beat it on your own. Now, you’ve got to get help. Rehab centers can’t do anything until addicts seek them out. For your own sake, let today be the day you find a rehabilitation program that can work for you.
