Committing yourself to getting help
Tuesday, January 29th, 2008Drug rehabilitation isn’t a spectator sport. Some California drug rehabs would have you believe that getting sober is simply a matter of going through the motions of exclusive addiction treatment. It isn’t. The truth is that drug addiction is a personal disease, and drug recovery has to be the product of personal effort. The only successful drug rehab patients are those who engage with their rehab programs, and commit themselves to the long-term fight against drug abuse. Drug rehabilitation can change your life, if it’s done right. The only catch is that you’re the one who has to make it go.
Make no mistake, there’s nothing easy about making the decision to check into a drug treatment center. But no choice could ever be important. The day you start drug rehabilitation is the day you start recovering your old self, and your old world. Addiction is a devastating disease. Addiction recovery is a tremendous gift. Don’t wait another day to start finding that out on your own terms.
